Completing An Emergency Project Print

Dealing with an Emergency Project
Challenge: Our new facility is under construction and is 3 weeks from hosting a major, worldwide televised sporting event. It has just been determined that a “live television broadcast booth” must be added to the project scope of work before going “on the air”. How would Boyken handle this type of “emergency” project?

Solution: While this is a most unusual problem, the Boyken Team works closely with the contractor to solve “last minute” additions to the construction project scope. We look at location, the availability of local specialty materials, the scope of work that could be accomplished in such a short time as well as the escalated cost involved in ordering labor and materials at the “eleventh hour”.

Recently, we solved just this sort of problem in a very remote location, which had limited access to specialty materials, issues with the labor pool and problems gauging the impact on the rest of the construction team and remaining schedule.

With proper coordination between the contractor, designers and the owner, three weeks later, they went “on the air” and the new facility worked as advertised and the event was a huge success both on television and for the spectators.
