Challenge: My contractor has a cost plus contract and says the budget is increasing because he can’t get the details from the Architect. What should I do?

 

Solution: This scenario plays out in a lot of small, medium and large projects – in all cases Boyken goes back to basics – we fully review the owner’s goals and objectives, do a peer review of the construction documents and sometimes an independent cost estimate. That way all parties can get on the same page. The key to successful project management is always in the details and how those details add up in cost and time. Identifying relevant and potentially complicated design details early and communicating them to the entire Design and Construction team is an important responsibility and as your advocate it is one of Boyken's greatest strengths.
