Building on a longstanding relationship, Boyken was asked to conduct a feasibility and constructability study to determine how to add nine additional patient bed floors and one mechanical floor to the existing 12-story hospital building. The client requires the expansion to be completed without impacting use of the existing patient space, operating rooms, diagnostics and outpatient services.
Evaluation criteria that Boyken considered included: crane strategy, materials/personnel movement, patient and staff safety, and operational impacts. Based on Boyken’s constructability study and construction planning, design and construction was initiated, meeting all its predetermined criteria. Estimated construction completion date is June 2009.
