Challenge: We have an extremely complicated project for which we intended to use a construction manager early in the design process. How can Boyken help us to prepare this kind of bid package to select the right construction manager?
Solution: On a recent extremely complex project that included 32 consultants, including the primary design team, Boyken was asked to prepare the bid package for the early selection of the construction manager/general contractor on behalf of the architects and landscape architects.
As a result of this work the Owner decided that Boyken was needed on the Owner’s team to truly act in the owner’s best interest. Once engaged, we acted as the Owner’ Representative, managing the Owner’s project responsibilities, maintaining budgets, resolving design team-contractor issues and advising them throughout the project.
When the project was completed, the Owner is quoted as saying: “We literally could not have completed this project without you”. The architects had originally been skeptical because project management firms tend to focus on cost at the expense of the quality of the project. However, the architect told us that Boyken was one of those rare exceptions because we had “vision” that others lack, in achieving the Owner’s goals.
